A New England Romance. By the Peabodys. (Houghton Miffin. $2.)—The

authors of this delightful book were for- tunate in having such attractive parents and ancestors. The marrying of the Nonconformist Ephraim Peabody and Mary Jane Derby, a young and brilliant Society girl, was a romance indeed, and in spite of incredible misfortunes they appear to have loved each other to the end. It reads like a charming novel, but reminds one that truth is sometimes pleasanter than fiction.
