BUILDING SOCIETY'S ACTIVITIES.
I notice that the Abbey Road Permanent Building Society ntinues to make remarkable progress, and while that is, o doubt, partly due to the abnormal conditions of recent -ears and the big demand for houses, it is also due to the und conduct of the company's operations. It has now n in existence for half a century, and while growth • n business during that time has been almost romantic, fancy that there must be few years in which progress s been more marked than during 1926. For in the ear the Report states that the membership has grown over 50 per Cent. and that the new share capital d deposits have increased by £768,000, while over 400,000 was advanced during the year on carefully selected • hold or long leasehold securities. The directors have eclared a further special bonus payable on current issue of ony paid shares sufficient to increase the yield to 5 per cent. r annum free of tax. Further large allocations have also been ade to the reserves. I see that at the annual meeting to be Id this week the special speaker in addition to the President, Ii Josiah Stamp, will be Sir L. Worthington Evans.
