The Limerick Chronicle, alluding to the late riots in Limerick,
says- " There is abundant cause to be thankful to Providence for the saving influence of the Mathew principle. had any ol' the populace indulged in the use of intoxicating liquors in the midst of their excesses, nothing under Heaven could have withstood their mad career, but the musket and sword. Then what a calamitous spectacle would have presented itself in the streets of Limerick! We did not observe a drunken per- son in the riotous crowds that traversed the city."
