Besides taking a brilliant part in Tuesday's victory no1111 of
Ypres, the Frenoh have had to deal with several German attacks on their positions to the north of Verdun, where the enemy fire has been heavy and incessant all the week. On Wednesday a strong German attack compelled the French to evacuate a few outlying trenches north of the Chanute Wood, but the enemy could not develop his success.
