The comparatively new state of Yugo-Slavia has just held its

elections. The issue there is really between the Centralist Party and the Federalist Party. The Cen- tralists, who have been in power ever since the format ion of the State, wish to run the " Triune Kingdom," as -Yugo-Slavia. is called, as a Serbian Empire with it capital at Belgrade. The Federalists, whose most import- ant wing is the Croatian Party under M. Raditch, wish to decentralize the kingdom- into at least three loosely federated parts. First the old Serbia, secondly Croatia, thirdly Slovenia. The result of the election has been to give M. Pasitch and the Centralist Parties who support him the narrow majority of eleven. And to -secure even this the Government has used to the full every known device for" making "the elections. But the strength and size of the minority show the real desire, speciallY in Croatia, for some measure of Home Rule, and we trust that the Government will see its way to making a reasonable concession on these lines. There is little . doubt that this could have been already secured had not M. Raditch's somewhat erratic and ill-advised leadership done, great harm to what is undoubtedly the good cause of Croatian Home Rule.
