Everyday Life in Cape Colony. By X. C. (T. Fisher

Ulm in. 3s. 6d.) —" In Time of Peace" the author adds to the title of his book. In fact, it ends with the declaration of war by the Boers. It is chiefly occupied with the ups and downs of a farmer's life in the Colony. The farmer has, it would seem, many enemies to contend with,—birds, beasts, and insects without number, and persistent droughts. Yet the country has advantages that more than counter- vail the evils,—only you must choose your place. Altogether this is a volume of considerable practical value. The intending emi- grant will, of course, look elsewhere for detailed and exact in- formation, but he would learn something from a preliminarx reading of this little volume.
