Mount Vesuvius. By T. Logan Lobley. (Stanford.)—This is an exceedingly
interesting account, both historical and scientific, of Vesuvius. Mr. Lobley, who has the art of graphic description, tells us what the mountain is like now and what it has been, and shows how the changes have come to pass. He gives us also a list of all the move- ments which have taken place, with the letters of the younger Pliny describing the famous eruption of A.D. 79. A catalogue of the volcanic minerals makes up a very complete volume.
