We record with very great interest and strong approval Lord

Cromer's generous gift of £1,000 to the British Academy

" to be held in trast and to be invested in any way that the Council may think fit, with a view to the interest on the money being awarded annually as a prize for the best essay on any subject connected with the language, history, art, literature, or philosophy of Greece. The trustees to have absolute power to decide as to the nature of the subject. I wish also to leave to the trustees the fullest discretion to deal both now and in the future with the whole of the detail in any manner that they may think fit, provided that the main object that I have in view, namely, the encouragement of Greek study, is preserved."

The subject is one so full of interest that we hope to return to it before long.
