MR. ARNOLD BENNETT'S EVENING CLOTHES [To the Editor of the
SPECTATOR.]
Snt,-Please allow me to protest against the entirely untrue statement appearing in your issue of October 10th that I have worn a purple [dress] suit for many years. I have never worn a purple suit. I do not mind being accused of venality, insin- cerity, and even theft, but your libel is much more serious.—
I am, Sir, &c., ARNOLD BENNETT. 75 Cadogan Square, S.W.1.
[Our contributor desires us to say that as Mr. Bennett rejects her proffered compliment, she withdraws it and sin- cerely apologises to him for having offered it without due warrant.—En. Spectator.]
