Sir: I have been a devotee of Sir Denis Brogan's
work for many years. In his comment (4 April) on the late General Eisenhower he has done what no American writer could have done. Here in America we will have to wait for 'future historians' to say what Sir Denis has said. That they will agree with him in considerable measure I have no doubt. That many contem- poraries agree in the same measure I know to be true.
I marvel at the intimate knowledge that Sir Denis Brogan has of world history with parti- cular emphasis on France, Britain and the United States. He stands unique in his field. I had the pleasure of spending an evening with him at the Ritz in Boston fifteen years or so ago. There is no reason why he should remem- ber-it but to me it was a never-to-be-forgotten experience.
