By a natural sequence Lord Birkenhead went on to remind

the influential Labour leaders in the deputation that some day presumably they would themselves be members of a Government, and they would then be grateful for the security of the principle which he was now upholding. Lord Birkenhead, it may be imagined, greatly enjoyed himself when reading this lecture to the Labour Party, but with regard to the possibility of generosity in the case of minor offences he has been as good as his word. Several prisoners are being released in order that they may be back in their homes for Christmas.
