For Some Consumers In Leslie Adrian's absence on holiday I
thought I would contribute a short note on a matter of consuming interest. Strictly, I imagine, for infor-
mation only. A few days ago I was dining with Drew Middleton, who, after many years in London, now heads the Paris office of the New, York Times. We went to Le Taillevent in the Rue Lamennais. The food there is ex- cellent and the wine even better. The prices match them, and are indeed reasonable enough. But gawking through their fabulous wine list I noted that a bottle of Château Laflte-Rothschild 1806 cost 700 NF, which my unsure mathematics assure me is £51 10s. Of course, if you want to skimp a bit you can have the younger brother (class of 1829) for only 500 NF.
Spectator readers, especially those who read Quoodle, know everything. Does anyone know of a restaurant boasting a wine list which in- cludes a wine at a higher price?
