O. had the shootin' there then. He was a mean olc devil, he was. One afternoon I was out with me dog and put up a rabbit that ran right across his land. Well, the dog killed this rabbit and he was bringin' him back to me like when the ole Doctor seen him. Ho coudn't catch him, mind. Not my dog he couldn't, but he come over to me and ses, 'I'll thank you for that rabbit. It was toJk on my land and it's my property.' I never said nothin'. I just let him have the blamed thing, but a month after, when he was shootire in. the turnips, he put up some partridges an one fell at my feet as I was walkin' along the road. Down he conic again. ' You sea a partridge ? ' he ses. I told him I seen it but it was runnin' fast and my dog was so discouraged about that rabbit he took front us he wouldn't go after the bird. The ole skinflint said nothin'. I had his partridge for supper on Sunday. It made it quits like. He was a mean ole devil."
