Rebeyrolle, at 27 one of the best known of the young French realists, gets his first full-dress London showing at the Marl- borough Gallery. Rebeyrolle is so deter- minedly ' big' in his treatment of simple, timeless subjects that even at his most turgid a certain self-conscious, rather oppressive, monumentality is evident in his work. Latterly he has turned his attention from the dark interior of his studio to landscape, and a lightening of his palette and his touch is noticeable.
