EFFECTIVE CONSTAEULARY.—A notice was posted up on Thursday at the

Horse Guards, calling upon all pensioners of the Royal Artillery throughout the kingdom, to present themselves to the chief magistrates of their district, and be sworn in as special constables, and to render every assistance in their power for the preservation of the public peace if called upon by them.

THE SneTrosi-HousEs.—These barracks for the Police are to be dispensed with, and the men are to lodge in future where they please, and how they please. The expense is the cause of the change.

EAST INDIA SiocK.—On Wednesday, at a Quarterly General Court of the East India Company, a dividend of 5-1 per cent, was declared on the Company's Stock for the half year commencing 5th July last, and ending 5th January next. LLOYD'S.—A general meeting of the subscribers to this establishment was held on Wednesday, to confirm or negative the resolution which was passed on the 22nd December, for discontinuing the allowances granted to the Committee. After a long and unsatisfactory discussion on a point of form, a motion of adjournment was made and carried. The original question was consequently lost, but it will probably be renewed at a future meeting.
