Legends of Leicester in the Olden Time, by THOM AS
PRATER. STONE, is an attempt to give a new interest to the antiquities(' the town, by legendary tales connected with them and the? historical events. Thus, a description and view of the lest Bear Tavern, where RICHARD the Third slept the nightbefore the battle of Bosworth, introduces an account of the fight, an" legend of a prophecy of the fate of Recteetto; and so with elle remains. The author has a talent for description, and his pe. lures of the scenery and the manners and costumes of the tides time are vividly drawn and brightly coloured; but he wants the finer art to animate the personages and depict their characters it action and speech, nor does he appear to possess the inventive faculty.
