It is stated in a telegram from Simla that no
fewer than 70,000 persons died from cholera in the North-West Provinces during June and July, being 1 per cent. of the population. For a two months' mortality that is large, though not so large as the mortality from cholera in its most disastrous earlier outbreaks has in special localities been known to reach. In the Mediter- ranean, too, cholera appears to be at present on the increase.
