PROFIT—RATE PER CENT.
[To THE EDITOR OP THE " SPECTATOR.'
Sia,—Having read his letter in the Spectator of March 13th, may I be permitted to assure Mr. Pixie that were I to sell for .t1 an article that had cost ls., I, personally, should certainly feel, and freely own, that I had made a profit of 1,900 per cent. Tradesmen in general would not, I think, acknowledge this. Rather would they say : "Not so; you have made a profit of only 95 per cent." They would arrive at this result by sub- tracting the cost from the sale price, multiplying the result by 100, and by then dividing that result by the eale price.—I [We cannot continue this correspondence.—En.
