The Black Letter Days in the Prayer Book Calendar. By
George Worley. (Cope and Fenwick. 4s. net.)—Few Church- men know the stories of all the lesser saints in the English Calendar, so that Mr. Worley's modest compilation will interest many-people. He does not attempt to explain why the English Church commemorates certain foreign saints and martyrs, like Lucian, Fabian, Nicomede, and Perpetua, and not others who were held of equal worth in the Roman Church, but he gives references to some of the larger books in which the subject may be studied. The principle which guided the Reformers of 1549 and 1561 in their choice of saints is not indeed easy to discover.
