Word-Studies in. the New Testament, By Marvin S. Vincent, D.D.
(Nisbet and Co.)—This is the third volume of this laborious -work. Professor Vincent treats of seven of the Pauline.Epistles, —viz., Romans, Corinthians, Ephosians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon. He prefixes a general account of the Epistles', and then proceeds to deal with their language in detail on the plan which he has followed in the 'previous volumes. He takes, that is, word after word, and discusses its usage by St. Paul, with a comparison to that by other writers, its general meaning, and precise bearing in the particular passage. Ho interprets, we see, trip 717.s, vercpc7o in I. Cor. xv., 29, as meaning that "a living Christian was baptised for a dead ono," but owns himself dis. satisfied ; work tiPOpeirror ?Onp:opuixnera, in the same chapter, ho takes figuratively. The Biblical student will find this work a treasury of sound. and useful learning.
