[To THZ EDITOR OF THE " SPECTATOR."] Srs,—The references to " W. G." and the hymn sung in Marl- borough College Chapel on the Sunday after " W. G." had been bowled for three runs when he was present—" The scanty triumphs grace hath won "—recall a similar coincidence in the same surroundings. In 1889—speaking from memory—J. B. Wood, afterwards of Oxford fame, was captain of the Marl- borough eleven, and a prominent member of the team was 0. H. Stone. The Cheltenham team, who had been beaten, were in chapel, and no doubt smiled as they sang the line in " From Greenland's icy mountains " which runs: " The heathen in his blindness bows down to wood and stone."—I am,
