Slave trade

Sir: I am surprised that there should be any doubts about the legal aspect of 'surrogate motherhood' in this country or why the Home Secretary should be expected to make a pronouncement. The illegitimate Children of British mothers are born with British nationality. The sale of British nationals is illegal. There are no second- class British nationals: one is either British or one isn't.

If the Home Secretary were suddenly to Pronounce the legality of such sales in Particular cases, then could not any of us Who enjoy the protection of British nationality (including the Home Secretary) legally be sold by our nearest and dearest for a thumping profit, in the unlikely but

not impossible event of anyone wanting to buy us?
