ALTERNATIVE METHODS OF HOUSE CONSTRUCTION

[To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.] SIR,—As regards the alternative methods of house construction now being discussed, such as steel houses, two important factors should be borne in mind : (1) the insurance on such houses. Would the insurance on such houses be greater than it would be on houses constructed of brick, stone or concrete ? ; (2) does the exterior of such houses have to be painted, and periodically repainted ? If so the increased continual expendi- ture would go far to neutralize the advantage gained by any initial saving on construction.—I am, Sir, &c.,
