[To THE EDITOR OP THE " SPECTATOR"] San,—Indeed, you are only too correct in detecting the influence of Tennyson in Mr. Davidson's "Ballad of a Nun."
You quote the words :— "And yet, We lost it in this daily jar and fret, And now live idle in a vague regret."
In "The Miller's Daughter," Tennyson has this
"Love is hurt with jar and fret. Love is made a vague regret. Eyes with idle tears are wet. Idle habits link us yet. What is love P for we forget Ali, no I not"
