THE SCANDINAVIAN CHURCHES.

[To THE EDITOR OF SHE "SPECTATOR."] Sra,—The writer of the excellent article upon "The Lambeth Conference on the Reunion of Christendom" seems to regard the case of the Lutheran Churches in Norway and Sweden in respect of the episcopal succession as identical. This is not the fact. There is no doubt that both in Norway and Denmark, which were in political union at the Reformation period, the ancient succession was cut off. The case of the Swedish Church is that of a doubtful succession whose chief proof is (if it has not been destroyed) in unfriendly hands at Rome, and as to whose claims I do not here venture on an opinion.—
