to the verb "butcher," mentioned in an editorial note to a letter on " Swashbuckling " in the Spectator of May 18th, it may be of some interest to note that the verb " hutch " =to carry on the trade of a butcher, to slaughter, is still in use in the English dialects (see Professor Wright's "English Dialect Dictionary," Vol. I., s.v. "Butch "). It is given there as in use in Scotland (with a quotation from Burns), in the Northern Counties of England, and in Somerset-
