The Doomed City. By the Rev. A. D. Crake. (A..
W. Mowbray.) —This story, which bears the second title of "The Last Days of Darocina," takes us b tck to the days when the Saxons were making their way as conquerors through Britain. Darocina is Dorchester, well known for its British and Roman remains, the curious traces of fortification on Synodan Hill, and the Dorchester Dykes. Mr. Crake weaves out of the materials thus suggested or supplied a tale which will interest many readera. The straggle of races was also a struggle of religions, and our sympathy is called forth not only for the patriots fighting for their native land, but also for the champions of the tChristian faith.
