The German Naval Estimates were discussed by the Budget Committee

of the Reichstag on Wednesday. The votes for new construction amount to £1,719,500, which shows an increase of £722,500. On the same day in Paris the Chamber of Deputies discussed the French Naval Estimates. The statement by Admiral Bone de Lapeyrere was extremely well received by the whole Chamber. His chief critic, Admiral Bienaime, censured the expenditure, which was out of all pro- portion to the returns in naval efficiency, but at the same time he admitted that Admiral Bone de Lapeyrere had restored discipline in the arsenals, the condition of which had become a scandal, and had introduced greater activity in the Service.
