Sir John Simon handled with great dexterity on Wed- nesday

afternoon the questions that came from all parts of the House on the behaviour of the Police in connexion with the Fascist demonstration at the Albert Hall. Ile argued very plausibly that the dominant concern of the police authortics was to avoid a clash between the Fascist and anti-Fascist forces and that this had governed their decision to allow no counter meeting within half a mile of the Albert Hall. The Opposition were not satisfied that the Police had carried out their duties with their usual restraint and efficiency, but the suggestion of Mr. Mahone that the Albert Hall should not. be let for meetings which might create a breach of the peace was greeted with loud cries of " this is not Germany."
