A CORRECTION

Sin,—Owing to my inability to verify a reference till it was just too late to correct my proof, I said in my review of Mrs. Millin's book on General Smuts in last week's Spectator that Leslie Stephen had described Smuts as " the most brilliant. student I have ever taught." Actually the tribute came not from Leslie Stephen but from F. W. Maitland.—I am. Sir,
