The Charm. By Alice Perrin. (Methuen and Co. 6s.)—The sympathies
of the readers of this tale of Anglo-Indian life will be entirely with the Eurasian heroine. It cannot be doubted that Mark Rennard's marriage to the beautiful Teresa was an unmitigated misfortune to him. It was almost as much a misfortune to the lady herself, but it is difficult to imagine any fate which would not have ended in tragedy for poor Teresa_ Perhaps, therefore, the short weeks of happiness which she enjoyed at the beginning of her married life compensated her for the sad close. The book is full of interest, and the pages describing Eurasian life are most picturesque and convincing.
