Eighty Years Ago : the Recollections of an Oil Army
Doctor. By the late Dr. Gibney. (Bellairs and Co.)—Dr. Gibney describes how he studied medicine at Dublin and Edinburgh, and gives some curious sketches of the Professors whose lectures he attended, or did not attend, as the case might be. His commis- sion as an army surgeon came in 1813. He was present at Waterloo, and gives a dismal picture of his—i.e., the doctor's — share in a great battle. After this came a move to Paris, and then some months' experience of quarters in various parts of France. The volume is not without interest ; but the world would have been but imperceptibly poorer if it had not been published.
