To many such people, the Liberal Party offered not just a radical alternative to Tory stag- nation but also to the (albeit watered-down) doe- tinaire radicalism of our present Government. 1 suggest that. there are real differences between the Liberal and Labour Parties which would necessitate Mr. Donnelly and Mr. Wyatt crossing a gap rather than building a compromise bridge if they are to join with the Liberal Party.
