0 Captain, my Captain!

MY RACING CORRESPONDENT, Cap- tain Threadneedle, is to receive the singu- lar honour of having a race named after him. So he joins racing's pantheon. The Derby, the St Leger, the Queen Mother Champion Steeplechase, the Captain Threadneedle Selling Hurdle. . . They will jump off over two miles at Huntingdon on 23 November, which is the Daily Telegraph Peterborough Chase Day, and the Captain will be on the course, striding out well. Racegoing readers will recognise his weath- ered trilby, sometime the property of Cap- tain Ryan Price, the trainer — a brother officer, as Threadneedle likes to suggest — with its irregular contour corresponding to the upper cranial limit of hair.
