Ffere, Jacques
A LEFT AND RIGHT in Attalis is good shooting. Bernard Attali, the Saint-Exupery or Biggles of Air France, has now plummet- ed to earth beside his twin Jacques, the banker with the taste in marble. I thought that Bernard might be losing altitude the other day, when he blamed his airline's
appalling results on an Anglo-Saxon con- spiracy. That sounded like Jacques, and suggests that the twins have been swapping identities. The alternative theory is that talk of twins is just a cover story, and that there is only one Attali, who has been moonlight- ing. This would explain why the banking version kept a base in Paris without telling his board, and why he spent so much time in aeroplanes, which were all the more expensive because they had to come from France to collect him.
