Sir: William Cash's piece on British aristo- crats and upper-middle classes working in Los Angeles ('One lets it all hang out', 16 October) would have been even more inter- esting had he told us how these 'liberated' souls obtained their green cards. Could it be that the very drawback — their aristocratic and upper-middle class status — which holds them back commer- cially in Britain has some influence in obtaining the green cards without which it is illegal to work in the USA?
