POLITICAL MARKETS.
THE disturbing effects so often produced Upon the Stock Markets by a General Election have not been in evidence during the last few weeks. On the contrary, it would probably be true to say that from the moment of the dissolution of Parliament dealers in the Stock Markets have been busily anticipating the effects of a victory by the National Party. Consequently, as I have mentioned in an adjoining article, the possibility of a reaction has to be borne in mind whatever may be the precise result and the immediate effect of the Election. During the past week attention has chiefly centred upon high-class investment stocks and all Home securities, and especially those likely to be affected in any way by an improvement in trade. Some of the Foreign stocks, and more especially Brazils and Germans, have also risen appreciably, however, and in the speculative markets Mining shares have been well maintained. America, in its turn, has been under the influence of a continued gold drain, expectations of a higher New York Bank Rate and disappoint- - - • -(Continued owpage vi.) -
