Mr. Robert Lynd has collected a number of his essays

that have appeared in the columns of our contemporary the New Statesman, and published them under the name of The Book of This and That (Mills and Boon, 45. 6d. net). The papers deal with a wide variety of subjects, most of them originating from some circumstance of the moment, but they resemble one another in that they all have a touch of the didactic about them, and might be fairly described as lay sermons. This does not imply any heaviness in Mr. Lynd's work, for he writes most agreeably, and is always easy to read. His articles certainly justify their appearance in this more permanent garb.
