" What Lancashire Says Today . . • A Manchester correspondent in touch with the Jewish refugee problem writes that the committee formed there is largely concerned in placing immigrants in domestic service, in which line there is an acute shortage of labour. Any vacancy is first offered in all trades to non-immigrants. The influx of highly skilled German and Austrian Jews is proving in many cases a distinct asset to industry in Lancashire. These immigrants have brought experience and new ideas, both to the finishing and engineering trades, without dis- placing local labour. . . . Some refugees have brought secret textile processes here such as British manufacturers have been anxious to get hold of for years. The more wealthy Jews enjoying capital resources here have started business in several Lancashire towns, thus providing work for the local unemployed.—The Investors'
