Tailpiece 'Mr Wilson,' both the Guardian and the Daily Telegraph
informed their readers on Saturday, 'has written to Mr Nigel Lawson, editor of the SPECTATOR, to apologise for his slip of the tongue in answering a question from Mr Ian Gilmour (C, Norfolk Central), the proprietor of the SPECTATOR, on Thursday.' In fact, Mr Wilson's `slip of the tongue' resulted in an allegation about me that was not only totally untrue but com- pletely gratuitous, since Ian Gilmour's question had no connection with me whatsoever. And the Prime Minister's apology? Well, I've received no letter. I had occasion to complain about Mr Benn's postal service in these columns last week. If the lobby correspondents are to be believed. it must be even worse than I thought.
