The Life of Arthur Duke of Wellington. The People's Edition.
By the Rev. G. IL Gleig. (Longman and Co.)—We think this edition of Mr. Gleig's life of the Duke much better than the original two volumes. They were rather a history of the Duke's military and poli- tical achievements, which tho writer was not specially qualified to estimate. This is a personal history of our great general, and only touches on politics and strategy so far as is absolutely necessary, and that is just what Mr. Gleig does well. The book contains much new matter, and does not conceal the great man's foibles, of which it seems irritability was the chief. After reading it, one seams to know the Duke better, to realize that he was only a man, and yet to have lost no particle of our reverence for him. Can a biography have higher praise ?
