SOLDIERS AND THEIR RELIGION.

think Private H. Forrest has mistaken my letter, probably by my own fault. I had no wish to dispute anything he says as to the soldier's religion. I hope and believe it is all true. But complaint was made that many soldiers seemed totally ignorant of the historical facts and the elementary doctrines of Christianity, as set forth in the Bible, and were unable to find their way about the Prayer-Book. After the education they had received, this seemed to me incredible, and I ventured to suggest a possible explanation, which you yourself endorsed.—I am,
