SIR,—I cannot understand a great part of " Workman's" letter in the Spectator of September 28th ; but two sentences in it are quite simple, and upon the answer to them depends, I believe, the success or failure of the Conservative Party. "Will the Conservative Party let well alone ? Must they come to the electors with a newfangled social reform ?" I gather that " Workman" hopes that the Conservative Party will let well alone. If it does so, it will gather round it moderate men of all parties. If it goes in for newfangled social reforms it will not "dish the Whigs," but it will dish
