Competitors are invited to take this nursery rhyme, not too slavishly, as a model, and in similar vein to compose not more than eight lines of verse, jingle or doggerel, on one of the following pairs : Tories and Socialists, Democrats and Republicans, French and English, Classics and Romantics, Humanists and Scientists, Men and Women.—Prize £5, which may be divided.

Entries must be addressed to the Spectator, 99 Gower Street, London, W.C.1, in envelopes marked " Competition," and must be received not later than September 17th. Results will be published in the Spectator of September 26th.
