SOUTH METROPOLITAN GAS.

The directors of the South Metropolitan Gas Company may be congratulated upon the economies effected during the past year. In consequence of smaller sales and less profit from residuals, the gross revenue was lower, but corresponding economies were effected so that the net revenue was £569,068, against £570,610, a thoroughly satisfactory showing. The dividend is maintained at 61 per cent., while the Special Purposes Fund receives £46,000 against £30,000 in the previous year. The directors in their report make a protest against the encouragement of electricity to the detriment

of the gas industry by the Government. A. W. K. -
