President Wilson has defined his attitude on Prohibition in a

letter to one of its advocates. Holding the immediate passage of the Food Bill to be of vital consequence, and apprehending a heated and protracted debate if the provisions affecting the manufacture of beer and wine are retained, he considers it would undoubtedly to in the public interest if the supporters of these provisions con- sented to their withdrawal. It is accordingly anticipated that the Bill,in its final form will prohibit whisky, but permit the manufacture of beer and wine.
