A Book of Romantic Ballas. (George Newnes. 3s. net.)—This volume
contains for the most part well-known poems, ancient and modern. "The Nut-Brown Maid," "William and Marjorie," "The Bailiff's Daughter of Islington," " Childe Waters," may be mentioned as characteristic examples,—the historical ballad, as "Chevy-Chase" and "Agincourt," is not, it will be seen, included. Two ballads by living authors are given. One of them, we will frankly say, we are sorry to Sen. By bad luck, it stands first in the table of contents. Apart from this, we have nothing but praise for the volume, with its well-chosen contents and elegant form,—the price may be noted along with the fact that it is bound in leather and gilt-topped.
