NEWS OF THE WEEK.

MESSAGES from Paris during the week have contained a great deal of rumour and very little fact. None of the main points about which public anxiety concerns itself seems to have been settled, though we are told from day to day that everything is on the verge of settlement. The accounts of several correspondents rather invite its to regard the summoning of the ' George Washington' as though a motor-car had been ordered round to the front door, and as though Mr. Wilson might at any moment step into the vehicle in a majestic huff and say to the driver : " Home I"
