NEWS OF THE WEEK.

THE Conference has broken up without agreement, it having been found impossible to reach any solution of the Constitutional problem. The failure of the negotiations was announced late on Thursday evening by means of the following communication sent to the Press by the Prime Minister :—

"10 Downing Street.

The Conference which has been sitting to consider the Constitu- tional question has come to an end without arriving at an agree- ment. It is the opinion of all the members of the Conference that the conditions under which its proceedings have been held pre- clude any disclosure as to the course of the negotiations, or the causes which led to their termination."
