SKINFLINT'S CITY DIARY End of Sketch

So the Sketch is to close and its title be merged with the Daily Mail from May.

It does credit to Vere Harmsworth, the chairman, that he didn't give the tits and tips formula that has dotie so much for the Sun a try. Perhaps the American nicety of his latest stepmother, the former Mrs Dick Ohrstrom, stopped it. I suspect she will feel the weakening of the Associated Newspaper Group as deeply as anyone connected with the proprietorship. At the time of the general election she was as conscious as Lady Hart- well of the Daily Telegraph of her place in 'swaying things' in the political firmament and as busy as anyone to make sure that nothing appeared in the pages of the Daily Mail, even Bernard Levin, that hadn't been rinsed in the true blue whitener.
